Point Edward, ON – Lambton Public Health (LPH) and its partners in Age-Friendly Sarnia-Lambton (AFSL) are pleased to release the latest survey report regarding the needs of older adults in Lambton County.
This survey built upon work by AFSL in partnership with LPH, the Older Adult Care Pathway Steering Committee, and the Lambton College Research and Innovation Department and was conducted to obtain a greater understanding of the needs of older adults in Lambton County. The survey included the input from 597 adults over the age of 55, 231 primary caregivers, and 70 individual service providers.
Adults over the age of 55 represent the largest population demographic in Lambton County, and this survey provides valuable insight into the awareness, access, and usage of available community supports and health services.
Carried out with support of the Ontario Ministry for Seniors and Accessibility through the Inclusive Committees Grant, the survey highlights opportunities for increased coordination of care and awareness of available services and supports for seniors and caregivers.
These findings have already led to improvements to the AFSL website as well as the creation of an Age-Friendly Best Practice for Businesses and Service Providers e-learning course, designed to address and encourage workplace changes to be more inclusive of an aging population.
The report will also be used to further develop strategic priorities and improve services and can be viewed in full at LambtonPublicHealth.ca.
Seniors and caregivers are encouraged to Get Connected, Stay Connected and visit AgeFriendlySarniaLambton.ca or call the Family Counselling Centre at 519-336-3000 for more information about programs, supports, and services available in Lambton County.
