Accessibility for Ontarians with Disabilities Act
In June 2005, the Accessibility for Ontarians with Disabilities Act 2005 received Royal Assent and became law. The purpose of the Act is to benefit Ontarians by developing, implementing and enforcing accessibility standards to achieve accessibility for people with disabilities in goods, services, facilities, accommodation, employment, buildings, structures and premises on or before January 1, 2025.
Standards will be set in both the public and private sectors to address the full range of disabilities - including physical, sensory, mental health, developmental and learning. The County of Lambton will continue developing and implementing its accessibility plan with the new law and future development of standards in mind.
