Sarnia, ON – The Housing Services Department is accepting applications for a new Affordable Housing Seed Funding Program, which provides grant funding to assist with the planning costs of building new affordable housing projects.
Subject to Council approval at the September 6, 2023 meeting, the program will provide up to $200,000 per approved project, up to a maximum total of $500,000 for all approved projects in 2023.
“The Affordable Housing Seed Funding Program will help support local affordable housing initiatives undertaken by non-profit organizations and ultimately help add more affordable housing units within the County of Lambton,” said Melisa Johnson, Manager, Housing Services. “There are existing gaps in available funding opportunities and resources, which can make the first steps to constructing affordable housing a challenge. This funding program will help supplement currently available opportunities.”
To be eligible for funding, applications must be submitted by a non-profit agency for residential projects within Lambton County, containing a minimum of five affordable housing units. A list of eligible project types, activities, and full program details are available online at www.lambtononline.ca/seedfunding.
Applications and required supporting documents can be submitted to Melisa Johnson, Manager, Housing Services, by email no later than Friday, September 22, 2023. Applications will be reviewed in late September and successful applicants will be notified by mid-October.
