Back to SearchWyoming, ON - On Friday, May 24, Southwestern Integrated Fibre Technology Inc. (SWIFT) announced the launch of a targeted broadband project to improve access to high speed internet in homes and businesses throughout Lambton County, in partnership with the provincial and federal government.
SWIFT representatives announced the $11.2 million project along with Lambton-Kent-Middlesex MPP and Ontario Minister of Infrastructure Monte McNaughton, Sarnia-Lambton MPP Bob Bailey, Ontario Minister of Agriculture, Food and Rural Affairs Ernie Hardeman, and Lambton County Warden Bill Weber. The project will focus on connecting underserved homes and businesses, where current service does not meet the universal service objectives of the Canadian Radio-television and Telecommunications (CRTC).
"We're very pleased with this announcement. The vision for this project began in 2005, and we are very proud to be included in an early part of its implementation," said Lambton County Warden Bill Weber. "The project will benefit many businesses and homes throughout Lambton County."
The targeted project in Lambton County is part of the first wave of deployment from SWIFT. Lessons learned from the experience in Lambton County will be used to ensure success as the project is carried out across the rest of Southwestern Ontario.
SWIFT will be issuing Requests for Proposals for areas in Lambton County later this year. Construction will begin once the procurement process is complete.
