Wyoming, ON - Lambton County Council has approved a net levy rate increase of 5.3% to the County property tax levy, finalizing the County's 2025 Budget at the Council meeting held this morning.
In total, the budget calls for spending $323.2 million in 2025, $101.7 million of which will be raised through local property taxes.
"I’d like to thank staff for their time and hard work put towards developing this year’s budget, and Council for taking the time to review it,” said Lambton County Warden Kevin Marriott. "This budget carefully balances important investments that will be of benefit in the future and maintaining current service levels. The entire country will be facing cost pressures and the unknown potential impacts of tariffs in the coming months. The County will continue to monitor the impacts of the tariff challenges and adjust operations and capital programs as needed."
The 2025 budget includes a contribution of $3.6 million towards the Affordable Housing Reserve Fund, an increase of $600,000 from the amount that was contributed in 2024. Council also approved funding the development of a new headquarters for the Emergency Medical Services department, and an increase in ambulance service level.
Council also authorized an additional funding request from the County of Lambton Community Development Corporation (CLCDC) to support the Western Sarnia-Lambton Research Park with up to $900,000, distributed through four installments and subject to financial need. This funding is in addition to the 2025 grant provided by the County to CLCDC in the amount of $642,870, for total funding of $1,542,870.
The County of Lambton operates a wide variety of programs and services available to the public such as land ambulance, provincial offences court, three Long-Term Care Homes, 25 library locations and related digital resources, two museums, an art gallery, archives, local roadways, public health services, housing services, social services, building services, and planning and development services. The Corporation employs approximately 1,300 employees across over 40 sites.
A final version of the County's 2025 Budget will be available online at lambtononline.ca/budget in the coming weeks.
