Wyoming, ON – At its regular meeting on Wednesday, April 5, Lambton County Council:
- Heard presentations from:
- Brian Eves, President, Lambton Federation of Agriculture, Crispin Colvin, Vice President, Ontario Federation of Agriculture, and Karen McLean, Member Services Representative, Federation of Agriculture, regarding potential Official Plan changes that would allow removal of agricultural lands from food production purposes in Lambton County.
- James Oatway, Climate Action Sarnia Lambton, regarding the City of Sarnia's Official Plan and Bright's Grove land use.
- Shirley Roebuck, Co-Chair, Sarnia Lambton Health Coalition, regarding Healthcare in Sarnia-Lambton.
- Carlie Cox, Chair, Lambton Farm Safety Association, regarding areas of improvement in Lambton County that would enhance safety for all residents and visitors in the region.
- Tamara Batryn, representative of The Women of Ontario Say No, about the nature of Bill 5, its importance, and requesting Council’s support.
- Agreed to issue a letter in support of Bill 5 to Sarnia-Lambton MPP Bob Bailey, Lambton-Kent-Middlesex MPP Monte McNaughton, Premier Doug Ford, Municipal Affairs and Housing Minister Steven Clark, the Association of Municipalities of Ontario, and Orleans MPP Stephen Blais.
- Adopted the Lambton Drug and Alcohol Strategy for 2022-2023 and directed staff to work collaboratively with community stakeholders to pursue its implementation.
- Requested staff deliver a report to Council outlining potential timelines and a plan for the reopening of the County’s Official Plan to address, amongst other items, the settlement boundaries included in the Plan, by the June 7, 2023, Council meeting.
- Adopted the proposed amendment to By-Law 38 of 2002, as contained in By-Law 12 of 2023, to delegate the authority to approve applications for Official Plans and Official Plan Amendments to County Council upon request of the local municipality.
- Recommended a municipal appointee to the Thames-Sydenham and Region Drinking Water Source Protection Committee.
- Requested staff partner with Wildscape Co. for the possible development of lands on Kathleen Avenue in Sarnia under the Housing Supply Challenge, and to commence the re-zoning process for those lands.
- Appointed Ryan Beauchamp and Ron Van Horne to the position of Deputy Clerk of The Corporation of the County of Lambton for the period starting on April 2, 2023, and terminating on December 31, 2023.
Council will next meet in Open Session at 9:30 a.m. on Wednesday, May 3, 2023.
