Wyoming, ON – At its regular meeting on Wednesday, June 7, Lambton County Council:
- Heard presentations from:
- Kate Burns Gallagher, Executive Director, Western Ontario Wardens' Caucus (WOWC) regarding the 2023 WOWC priorities.
- Marilyn Gifford regarding the abundance of medical graduates seeking residency programs and the need to create more residency programs.
- Agreed to issue a letter in support of Marilyn Giffords’ request to launch a medical residency pilot program within Lambton County to Sarnia-Lambton MPP Bob Bailey, Ontario Minister of Health Sylvia Jones, and all Lambton County municipalities.
- Endorsed the implementation of a pilot program for the Housing and Homelessness Hub, which is a low-barrier, multidisciplinary, and multiagency day program to support individuals experiencing homelessness located at 837 Exmouth Street, Sarnia, until March 2024.
- Appointed Stephanie Harper to the position of Deputy Treasurer of The Corporation of the County of Lambton effective June 7, 2023.
- Authorized staff to launch the County Official Plan review and authorized the inclusion of a $350,000 multi-year budget for the County Official Plan as a separate budget line in the Planning & Development Services Department budget.
- Updated the chargeable rate for "Building Inspection and By-Law Enforcement" services rendered to Lambton County Lower-Tier Municipalities from $65.00 per hour to $70.00 per hour, plus the mileage rate as set by County Council, effective July 1, 2023.
- Approved the hiring of two full-time permanent staff positions, one Access Coordinator and one Tenant Relations Worker, within the Housing Services Department.
- Requested staff revisit and deliver a report to Council regarding the potential for a regional transit system within the County of Lambton by the July 5, 2023 Council meeting.
- Requested that a letter be issued to The Honourable Caroline Mulroney, Minister of Transportation, to release the Southwestern Ontario Transportation Report immediately, which includes transportation plans for Southwestern Ontario.
Council will next meet in Open Session at 9:30 a.m. on Wednesday, July 5, 2023.
