Wyoming, ON – After more than 30 years of service with the County of Lambton, Chief Administrative Officer Ron Van Horne has announced his pending retirement.
“On behalf of Lambton County Council I would like to thank Ron for his years of exceptional service to the County. His guidance and recommendations on the many challenges and opportunities that arise in the governance of a municipality have been invaluable,” said Lambton County Warden Kevin Marriott. “His expertise, professionalism, leadership, and commitment to both staff and the community will be very missed.”
Mr. Van Horne was first hired as an Assistant Solicitor for the City of Sarnia’s Legal Department in 1990, and then transferred to the County of Lambton in 1991 becoming the County Solicitor as part of the local restructuring under the Sarnia-Lambton Act. In the following years Mr. Van Horne held several positions before assuming the role of CAO.
“This job has been the best job I could ever imagine having, and I’d like to thank Council for trusting me to work with such talented staff and strong, passionate community leaders,” said Van Horne. “Retirement is not an easy step to take for someone who loves the work. My decision to retire has been made much easier knowing that there are such strong resources available internally to help guide the municipality into the future.”
The County’s current Deputy CAO and General Manager of Corporate Services, Stéphane Thiffeault, will be stepping into the role of CAO upon Mr. Van Horne’s retirement.
Stéphane Thiffeault is a lawyer with over 10 years of service with the County of Lambton in a number of different roles, including County Solicitor, Clerk, General Manager of Corporate Services, and Deputy Chief Administrative Officer. In addition to his time with the County of Lambton, Mr. Thiffeault has many years of experience in the private sector acting for clients in Canada, the United States, and the Republic of Singapore.
“I appreciate County Council’s confidence in me and am pleased to follow and continue Ron’s great work and leadership,” said Thiffeault. “I look forward to working with our great management team, staff, and stakeholders.”
“I would like to congratulate Stéphane on his new role as CAO for the County,” continued Marriott. “His extensive experience in both the public and private sector is certainly an asset to the County, and Council is confident he will provide great leadership within the Corporation.”
Mr. Van Horne is set to retire in February, 2023 and has no immediate plans for the future, other than to enjoy more time with his family. Mr. Thiffeault will begin the transition into the CAO role over the coming months.
