Wyoming, ON - The County of Lambton has purchased the former CIBC building located at 190 Front Street North in Sarnia.
The purchase for the 8,180 square foot facility, at $1.025 million, closed on Tuesday, November 27.
The County-owned and operated Judith & Norman Alix Art Gallery already occupies the second floor of the building pursuant to a lease agreement with CIBC, a lease that will terminate on account of the County's purchase of the property.
"This building provides many opportunities to support and advance the County's offerings of service to the public," said Lambton County Warden Bill Weber. "Staff will spend the coming weeks evaluating the best fits for use of the facility's ground floor and expect renovations to begin in the New Year."
From 1877 until shortly before its sale to the County, the property had been continuously owned and operated as a Bank of Commerce, then a CIBC branch.
