Wyoming, ON - The County of Lambton, together with the St. Clair Region Conservation Authority, are pleased to have partnered with Tree Canada, with support from sponsor LCBO, to plant 30 native trees at six County of Lambton locations through funding from the Treemendous Communities grant program.
Trees were planted earlier this week at Lambton Heritage Museum, Lambton Meadowview Villa, North Lambton Lodge, Oil Museum of Canada National Historical site, Lambton Public Health, and Lambton County Archives.
The goal of this project is to increase tree canopy coverage at County of Lambton facilities. Shade trees provide a wide range of benefits, including improving air and water quality and cooling community spaces. Staff at each of the planting locations assisted with tree planting and will care for trees to ensure their continued health.
Current tree canopy coverage in Lambton County is 13.44%, which is about half of the recommended level for a healthy environment. All Lambton County businesses, schools and homeowners are encouraged to plant and care for trees on their properties as together we can make a difference to reduce the impacts of climate change.
