Grand Bend, ON – Hockey fans and history enthusiasts alike are encouraged to attend the community lecture When the Wings Came to Town on Thursday, September 5 from 7:00 to 8:00 p.m. at Lambton Heritage Museum.
Presented by David McLean of the Forest Museum with special guest, former Detroit Red Wing Bill Lochead, this engaging presentation will uncover the fascinating history of a series of exhibition games the Detroit Red Wings played in Forest in the 1950s. Attendees will hear how good connections, a romance, and a little horsing around, led to NHL legends like Gordie Howe, Terry Sawchuk, and Ted Lindsay playing hockey here in Lambton County. Interested participants can register their seat for When the Wings Came to Town through the museum website.
This event compliments Lambton Heritage Museum’s current feature exhibition Hockey, a fascinating display developed by the Canadian Museum of History that explores how the sport of hockey has influenced Canadian history and what it reveals about us as a people. An accompanying addition curated by Lambton Heritage Museum focuses on Lambton County hockey history, uncovering local connections through artifacts, photographs, and stories. Hockey is available until November 9, 2024.
Admission is free for residents of Lambton County in 2024 in celebration of Lambton County’s 175th anniversary. To learn more about Hockey, please visit the exhibit page at heritagemuseum.ca.
