Discover the power of wind at the Oil Museum of Canada’s PA Day event

Oil Springs, ON – The Oil Museum of Canada invites families to catch the breeze at its upcoming PA Day event Blown Away: The Power of Wind on Friday, April 4, 2025.

Windmills have been used throughout history to generate power for grinding grain, powering saws, and more. This engaging event offers a hands-on opportunity to discover how wind has been harnessed as a powerful energy source, from historical uses to modern renewable energy solutions.

Between 11:00 a.m. and 3:00 p.m., visitors can drop-in and explore how the strong winds off Lake Huron are harvested to generate electricity. Activities include creating a pinwheel, flying a fish kite, and experimenting with wind-powered robots.

“We’re inviting families to use their PA Day to discover the power of wind through cool hands-on experiments and fun activities,” said Christina Sydorko, Educational Program Coordinator with the Oil Museum of Canada. “Renewable energy sources like wind are being harvested right here in Lambton County. While the Oil Museum primarily highlights oil history and the role of hydrocarbons, we're also exploring the evolution of energy production. This event highlights the complete energy story of our region—from Lambton County's pioneering role in the oil industry to its adoption of modern technologies harnessing renewable resources like wind power.”

Admission is $5 for adults, $4 for seniors (65+) and students, $3 for children, and children aged three and under are free. For more information, visit the event page on the Museum’s website.
