Wyoming, ON – The election of the Warden and Deputy Warden for the 2023-2024 term will take place on December 7, 2022 at the inaugural meeting of Lambton County Council.
The Warden serves as the Head of Council for The Corporation of the County of Lambton, while the Deputy Warden serves to assist the Warden when required, both for a two-year term.
At the time of distribution, Enniskillen Mayor Kevin Marriott is the only declared candidate for the position of Warden. Point Edward Mayor Bev Hand and City of Sarnia City/County Councillor Brian White are the declared candidates for the position of Deputy Warden. Candidates can enter their names into the running up until the time to vote at the December 7 meeting.
To be elected Warden, a candidate needs to secure a majority of votes cast by elected councillors. If a majority is not secured on the first ballot, run-off votes will take place until a candidate has secured a majority of votes.
Candidates for Deputy Warden do not need to secure a majority of votes. The candidate who secures the most votes in the first ballot is elected Deputy Warden. In the event of a tie in the first ballot between two or more candidates, a run-off vote will take place until the tie is broken.
The election of the Warden and Deputy Warden, along with the rest of the inaugural meeting of Council, will be livestreamed online.
