Wyoming, ON - The County of Lambton Emergency Control Group met Wednesday morning to discuss updates in the current COVID-19 situation. The group is scheduled to meet on Friday this week to discuss new developments and planning requirements. Additional meetings will be arranged if needed.
At the time of the meeting, there were 49 confirmed cases of COVID-19 in Lambton County and five COVID-19 related deaths. Visit the Lambton Public Health website for further information and the most recent updates.
The investigation into these cases by Lambton Public Health is ongoing. Public Health staff are continuing to work diligently to contact any individuals that may have been in close contact with these confirmed cases. Please note that Public Health's outgoing phone ID is listed as “private”, so you may receive a call from them with this identification.
Plans were discussed to create a Pandemic Working Group, and the Control Group will be moving the plan into action in the coming week. The Pandemic Working Group will be responsible for carrying out decisions made by the Emergency Control Group.
The Control Group is investigating the process to create a Recovery Plan, to assist the County in moving forward once the State of Emergency has ended. The Sarnia Lambton Economic Partnership has been asked to consider the idea and to report back to the group with their findings.
The Legal Services department provided an update to the group regarding an enforcement training session being held for local municipalities Wednesday afternoon. This training will provide by-law enforcement staff with the knowledge and tools needed to enforce the Provincial orders regarding the closure of outdoor amenities, closure of non-essential businesses and restrictions on social gatherings.
An Ontario business has offered to donate personal protective equipment (PPE) to Counties within Southwestern Ontario. Lambton County has expressed interest in this offer and staff are investigating the viability.
Our Medical Officer of Health, Dr. Ranade, continues to strongly encourage the community to practice intensive physical distancing and good hygiene. Regular handwashing, not touching your face and keeping at least 2 metres (6 feet) distance from others will help protect both yourself and the community.
For the most up to date information regarding COVID-19, please visit the Lambton Public Health website and the Province of Ontario website. Facility closures will be listed on the Lambton County website.
