Wyoming, ON - The County of Lambton Emergency Control Group met Wednesday, April 28 to discuss updates to the current COVID-19 situation.
At this meeting, the Emergency Control Group:
- Heard that 45,341 doses of COVID-19 vaccine have been administered in Lambton County, as of April 28, 2021. This is approximately 39% of the eligible population within the County.
- Received an update from Lambton EMS regarding the transfer of hospital patients from the Greater Toronto Area to other hospitals throughout the province. Lambton EMS is continuing to assist in transporting patients from the GTA to other hospitals in the province, including hospitals in Lambton County, Chatham-Kent and Windsor where capacity is available to provide support. Patients are now also being transferred by Ornge Air Ambulance.
- Heard that last week, Dr. Sudit Ranade, Medical Officer of Health for Lambton County, participated in an interview with Dr. Mike Haddad from Bluewater Health and Dr. Sumon Chakrabarti from Trillium Health Partners in Mississauga, discussing patient transfers, the challenges hospitals are facing, and the third wave of infection that Ontario is currently experiencing.
- Noted that Lambton Public Health is preparing to move to a new booking platform for COVID-19 vaccinations. This new platform is expected to be launched in early May and enables individuals to book, cancel and re-schedule appointments online, while allowing for quick adjustments to clinic schedules based on fluctuations in vaccine supply.
- Heard that there is currently a wait list for spaces in the Emergency Child Care program for school-aged children of essential worker families. Staff are working with local child care providers to open more spaces in this program. Updates and details including locations, eligibility, and how to apply can be found on lambtononline.ca/childcare.
- Would like to remind residents that local statistics are available on the Lambton Public Health website, including a detailed community snapshot.
