Wyoming, ON - The County of Lambton Emergency Control Group met Wednesday morning to discuss updates in the current COVID-19 situation. The group will meet next on Friday this week to discuss new developments and planning requirements. Additional meetings will be scheduled if needed.
At this meeting, the Emergency Control Group:
- Received an update from Lambton County's Medical Officer of Health, Dr. Ranade, regarding the COVID-19 situation in Lambton County. Current statistics are available on the Lambton Public Health website, including a detailed community snapshot.
- Discussed the announcement from the Province regarding additional employees being included in the temporary pandemic pay program. Staff are awaiting details from the Province on how this increase will be implemented.
- Received an update from Lambton EMS regarding changes to the COVID-19 patient screening tool. The recent update is resulting in more calls failing the initial screening, due to the addition of broadened screening criteria. When a patient fails the test, responding paramedics must wear different levels of PPE, resulting in PPE stock being depleted at a higher rate.
- Discussed community parades with OPP representatives. Parades are clearly listed in the Provincial order limiting organized social gatherings. Regarding drive-by salutes and similar activities, the most important thing for the community to remember is to practice proper physical distancing. Any circumstance that has potential to draw a crowd should be avoided.
- Heard the Pandemic Working Group will be implementing a volunteer management program in the coming days to maintain a log of potential volunteers, should the need to activate volunteer teams arise in the future. Updates will be provided as the program is launched.
