Wyoming, ON - The County of Lambton Emergency Control Group met Wednesday, December 23 to discuss updates in the current COVID-19 situation. The group will meet again on Wednesday next week to discuss new developments and planning requirements. Additional meetings will be scheduled if needed.
At this meeting, the Emergency Control Group:
- Received an update from Lambton County's Medical Officer of Health, Dr. Ranade, regarding the COVID-19 situation in Lambton County. Current statistics are available on the Lambton Public Health website, including a detailed community snapshot.
- Would like to remind residents that COVID-19 continues to actively circulate throughout Lambton County. An increase of 27 cases was reported this morning, with many of these cases attributed to social gatherings. Please continue practicing public health prevention measures, especially during the holiday season. Prevention measures include limiting all non-essential social activities, practicing proper hand hygiene, cough/sneeze etiquette, maintaining physical distance with others and wearing a mask when physical distancing is not possible or where required.
- Discussed the upcoming province-wide lockdown, which comes into effect December 26, 2020 at 12:01 a.m. Full details can be found on the Ontario website.
- Heard that there are now two vaccine candidates approved for use in Canada, the Pfizer-BioNTech COVID-19 vaccine and the Moderna vaccine, the latter of which was approved by Health Canada this morning.
- Discussed the immunization distribution planning process. This process is ongoing and involves engagement from multiple partners and stakeholders. Officials are waiting for the province to announce when our area will begin to receive vaccine doses, and are prepared to receive, store and administer the vaccine once the announcement is made.
- Received an update on PPE supply levels from County divisions. All areas continue to maintain an adequate supply level.
