Wyoming, ON - The County of Lambton Emergency Control Group met Wednesday, January 13 to discuss updates in the current COVID-19 situation. The group will meet again on Wednesday next week to discuss new developments and planning requirements. Additional meetings will be scheduled if needed.
At this meeting, the Emergency Control Group:
- Received an update from Lambton County's Medical Officer of Health, Dr. Ranade, regarding the COVID-19 situation in Lambton County. Current statistics are available on the Lambton Public Health website, including a detailed community snapshot.
- Heard that of the 14 current active outbreaks in Lambton County, two are progressing quickly and continue to be unstable. Lambton Public Health, Bluewater Health and other community partners are providing assistance to both Village on the St. Clair Retirement Home and Twin Lakes Terrace Long-Term Care Home.
- Continued to discuss the immunization distribution planning process. Lambton Public Health is continuing to actively work with community partners and stakeholders on the vaccine roll-out plan and all associated logistics. The group was reminded that the Province of Ontario primarily sets out eligibility criteria for the vaccine distribution, and the group was cautioned that the plan is dynamic and must be able to adapt to quickly changing circumstances at not only a local level, but at a regional level, or provincial level. Provincial decisions concerning the eligibility criteria for each stage of the vaccine roll out (including prioritization of recipients) will be made with two primary goals in mind: to prevent deaths and to protect critical systems.
- Heard that a presentation will be made outlining Lambton County's vaccine roll-out plan at a special meeting of Lambton County Council on Wednesday, January 20 at 10:00 a.m. The meeting will be live-streamed for public viewing, and the link will be made available through the Council and Committee Meeting Calendar prior to the meeting date.
- Discussed the restrictions and regulations announced by the Province that will come into effect at 12:01 a.m. Thursday, January 14. Details on these restrictions and regulations can be found on the Province of Ontario website and in the news release from yesterday's provincial announcement. Questions surrounding the impact these regulations will have on local businesses can be directed to the Stop the Spread Business Line at 1-888-444-3659.
- Heard emergency child care continues to be available for school-aged children of essential worker families in Lambton County. Additional child care locations are now available and eligibility requirements have been expanded. Details and application information can be found in the Emergency Child Care information sheet.
- Received an update on PPE supply levels from County divisions. All areas continue to maintain an adequate supply level.
- Was informed that the COVID-19 outbreaks declared at two County-operated Long-Term Care Homes have been declared over. The outbreak at North Lambton Lodge ended on Tuesday, January 12 and the outbreak at Lambton Meadowview Villa ended on Wednesday, January 13.
