Wyoming, ON - The County of Lambton Emergency Control Group met Wednesday, January 6 to discuss updates to the current COVID-19 pandemic response. The group will meet again on Wednesday next week to discuss new developments and planning requirements. Additional meetings will be scheduled if needed.
At this meeting, the Emergency Control Group:
- Received an update from Lambton County's Medical Officer of Health, Dr. Ranade, regarding the COVID-19 situation in Lambton County. Current statistics are available on the Lambton Public Health website, including a detailed community snapshot.
- Continued to discuss the immunization distribution planning process. Lambton Public Health is actively working with its community partners and stakeholders on a vaccine roll-out plan and all associated logistics. This includes working with organizations such as Ontario Health, Bluewater Health, and long-term care homes in Lambton County, and considering factors such as vaccine storage, transportation, record keeping and staffing levels among many others. The group was reminded that the Province of Ontario primarily sets out eligibility criteria for the vaccine distribution, and the group was cautioned that the plan is dynamic and must be able to adapt to quickly changing circumstances at not only a local level, but at a regional level, or provincial level. Provincial decisions concerning the eligibility criteria for each stage of the vaccine roll out (including prioritization of recipients) will be made with two primary goals in mind: to prevent deaths and to protect critical systems.
- Heard that Lambton Public Health is developing a communications plan to share general knowledge with community members about the immunization distribution planning process.
- Heard that 30 families accessed emergency child care, made available for school-aged children of essential worker families, while schools remain closed during the first week of January.
- Received an update on the COVID-19 outbreaks declared at the two County of Lambton operated long-term care homes, Lambton Meadowview Villa and North Lambton Lodge. No new cases have emerged.
- Agreed to correspond with the Ministry of Municipal Affairs to acknowledge the receipt of $722,000 in Safe Restart Provincial Funding and to also acknowledge that the funding was determined in part, by the COVID-19 case levels in late 2020, when Lambton had fewer cases, and remained in the least restrictive state of the province’s response framework. As cases have since increased, Lambton will request the Province acknowledge that circumstances can change quickly and the funding formula must have flexibility.
