Emergency Control Group Update - March 21

Wyoming, ON - The County of Lambton Emergency Control Group met this morning to discuss updates in the current COVID-19 situation.

The group received an update from Lambton County's Medical Officer of Health, Dr. Ranade. There are still no confirmed cases of COVID-19 in Lambton County, however Public Health officials continue to approach the situation as though the virus is here and circulating throughout the community.

By taking this approach, we are working to prevent the spread of the virus. Dr. Ranade continues to strongly encourage the community to practice enhanced social distancing and good hygiene. Regular handwashing, not touching your face and keeping at least 2 metres distance from others will help protect both yourself and the community.

Dr. Ranade would like to remind the community of the seriousness and gravity of our current situation. "If you are returning from a trip outside the country or showing any respiratory symptoms, you need to self-isolate," he says. "Stay at home, do not go to work, do not go to any public places. Call on a neighbour or friend if you need help with running errands. Many local service clubs are providing local grocery delivery services and other assistance. There are ways to get what you need while staying in self-isolation."

Testing capabilities are limited in Lambton County, as there is a limited supply of COVID-19 testing kits world-wide. Local testing is focusing on the critically ill and on business continuity needs for essential service providers like healthcare workers and others on the front lines. In Lambton County, we have almost 40 tests returned whose results have all been negative.
