Emergency Control Group Update - March 23

Wyoming, ON - The County of Lambton Emergency Control Group met this morning to discuss updates in the current COVID-19 situation. The group will also be meeting on Wednesday and Friday this week to discuss new developments and planning requirements.

The group received an update from Lambton County's Medical Officer of Health, Dr. Ranade. There are still no confirmed cases of COVID-19 in Lambton County, however Public Health officials continue to approach the situation as though the virus is here and circulating throughout the community.

By taking this approach, we are working to prevent the spread of the virus. Dr. Ranade continues to strongly encourage the community to practice enhanced social distancing and good hygiene. Regular handwashing, not touching your face and keeping at least 2 metres distance from others will help protect both yourself and the community.

Testing capabilities are limited in Lambton County, as there is a limited supply of COVID-19 testing kits world-wide. Local testing is focusing on the critically ill and on business continuity needs for essential service providers like healthcare workers and others on the front lines. Testing is being conducted on cases that fit these scenarios.

Whether a test is conducted or not, the suggested treatment does not change - if you are experiencing mild respiratory symptoms, you need to self-isolate. If your symptoms become more severe and you need to seek medical attention call your health care provider for assessment, or call Telehealth Ontario at 1-866-797-0000.

In Lambton County, we have received results from almost 40 tests, all of which have been negative, and we are awaiting results on additional tests that have been conducted.
