Wyoming, ON - Lambton County Library and the Judith & Norman Alix Art Gallery (JNAAG) are once again partnering to offer a teen photo contest and this year’s theme, "Lambton Through the Lens," explores what makes Lambton unique and celebrates the County's 175th anniversary.
“The Teen Photo Contest is an opportunity for teens to explore creativity, connect with their communities, and learn new skills,” said Vanitia Campbell, Public Services Coordinator: Youth Programs & Outreach, with Lambton County Library. "Through this contest, teens can submit pictures taken with any device or camera to showcase their talents."
The Teen Photo Contest is open to participants between the ages of 13 and 18 who live in Lambton County. The competition consists of three categories for participants to showcase their photography skills:
- Local Icons: Feature a natural landmark or iconic structure in Lambton County.
- Abstract: Highlight unique geometry, lines, shadows, or reflections of a local landmark.
- Romance of Ruin: Capture old structures, weathered objects, or forgotten places in your community.
Participants are invited to submit up to five photographs online at lclibrary.ca/teenphotocontest. The submission period is now open, and photos will be accepted until July 7. A panel of industry experts will review all entries and select 25 photos to be featured alongside works by Canadian photographer Jane Hinton (b.1936-2020) at JNAAG from August 2 to October 12, 2024.
Teen photographers selected for the exhibition will receive an invitation to an exclusive artist preview and award ceremony at JNAAG before the exhibit opens. Three category winners and one grand prize winner will be announced on July 19. The grand prize winner will receive their choice of $100 to Mainframe in Sarnia, $100 to Carmen’s Foto Source, or a virtual one-hour one-on-one session with award-winning photographer Peter Power. Following the exhibit's conclusion in October, the four winners will receive their winning photos professionally matted and framed.
“The Judith & Norman Alix Art Gallery is thrilled to collaborate with Lambton County Library in fostering a vibrant artistic community and looks forward to witnessing the perspectives captured by local teens,” says Rose Canino, Exhibition Support & Exhibition Education Coordinator with the Judith & Norman Alix Art Gallery. “The contest not only provides a platform for showcasing teen talent but also offers invaluable opportunities for personal and professional growth through workshops.”
