Petrolia, ON - The week of May 21st marks Paramedic Services Week in Canada and the County of Lambton is joining in recognizing the essential work done by paramedics every day for our community.
This year’s theme is “Diversity in Paramedicine – The Patient, The Provider, The Profession,” and is meant to provoke conversations about how diversity in our community is reflected in the broader health care system and the ways paramedics support those they serve.
Each day carries a different key message surrounding the various aspects of diversity in paramedicine. Lambton County paramedics are committed to listening, learning, and further developing their services to provide strong, patient-informed care that meet the needs of our diverse communities.
Lambton Emergency Medical Services (LEMS) employs approximately 160 full and part-time Primary Care, Advanced Care and Community Paramedics operating from 9 stations throughout the county. LEMS programming is continuously becoming more integrated with clinical and social services, both within and outside of the hospital walls.
Initiatives such as the Community Paramedic program focus attention upstream of emergency departments providing collaborative care with other health services in the home to help residents avoid trips to the hospital. Lambton paramedics have also been recognized for their volunteer work with the Smiles to Remember program which provides transport for palliative care patients who wish to have one last chance to visit special places in their lives.
Warden Kevin Marriott remarked, “We owe our paramedics a debt of gratitude for the work they do to keep our communities safe, day-in and day-out. We’re fortunate to be served by such a dedicated team of professionals.”
