Petrolia, ON – This morning marked the launch of a new Lambton EMS shift providing additional paramedic coverage within the County of Lambton.
This shift will provide additional service hours to improve 911 coverage throughout the county by reducing the movement of ambulances from other parts of the county in response to demand in the Sarnia area. Adding service hours to activate an additional crew during peak response times will also address increasing call demand and workload concerns among staff.
“We are pleased to see the launch of this new shift and know it will benefit both Lambton County residents and our EMS staff,” said Stephen Turner, Manager, Lambton County Emergency Medical Services. “Workload among our crews, in Sarnia and across the county, has been increasing with call demand. The addition of this crew will help meet both our current service needs of the community and position us to ensure we’re well prepared for the future.”
The increase was approved by Lambton County Council in April 2022 to help address increasing call volumes and paramedic workload. This is the first increase in emergency paramedic coverage for Lambton County in 14 years.
“The County’s Paramedics are committed to providing reliable and compassionate care and this new service enhancement will assist with the increasing workload pressures facing our frontline EMS staff,” added Andrew Taylor, General Manager, Public Health Services.
The crew will operate from 10 a.m. to 10 p.m., seven days per week covering the hours of peak demand. They will start in Corunna and move to Sarnia shortly after the start of their shift.
