Point Edward, ON - Lambton Public Health (LPH) is reminding parents and guardians to ensure routine childhood immunizations are up to date.
In accordance with the Immunization of School Pupils Act (ISPA), parents and guardians are required to report routine childhood vaccines to LPH. At this time, student suspension orders for noncompliance with ISPA have been paused for the 2022-2023 school year to provide an opportunity to catch up on missed vaccines and to allow for vaccine reporting to LPH. High school students will receive a vaccine reminder letter this month and elementary school students will receive a vaccine reminder letter later this spring.
“Ensuring children are up to date on routine immunizations, which protect against diphtheria, tetanus, pertussis, polio, measles, mumps, rubella, varicella (chickenpox), and meningococcal disease, helps reduce the risk of outbreaks and serious illness,” said Dr. Karalyn Dueck, Acting Medical Officer of Health for the County of Lambton. “As we continue our COVID-19 pandemic recovery efforts, we encourage everyone to catch up on any immunizations that may have been missed over the past three years.”
Immunization records can be checked and reported by visiting Immunization Connect Ontario (ICON). Any children with outstanding routine vaccines are encouraged to book an appointment with their health care provider or at LPH clinics.
Upcoming LPH vaccine clinic dates can be viewed at GetTheVaccine.ca. Appointments for vaccination are available with LPH by booking online or by calling our Vaccine Call Centre at 226-254-8222.
Reporting immunization records can also be done by emailing a copy or photo to immunization@county-lambton.on.ca, or by mailing or dropping off a copy to LPH at 160 Exmouth Street, Point Edward ON N7T 7Z6.
