Point Edward, ON – After learning that four local taxi drivers have tested positive for COVID-19, Lambton Public Health (LPH) is putting out a call to members of the public asking anyone who used the service to get tested for COVID-19.
“If you travelled with Blu Light Taxi from March 21 to April 8, 2021 and your trip was greater than 15 minutes please get tested at a public assessment centre as soon as possible,” said Lori Lucas, Supervisor of Health Protection.
Public Assessment Centres may be accessed by appointment only for those who have symptoms of COVID-19 or those who do not have symptoms, but are at high risk of contracting the virus due to close contact with confirmed cases. For further information on hours of operation and/or to find an assessment centre location near you please access LPH’s COVID-19 Testing page.
If your test comes back positive, LPH will be in touch with you directly. If you receive a negative test, no further action is required. The health department is taking steps to work with the company to collect information about its passengers’ trips for the days in question, but not all contact information is available.
“It is difficult to trace close contacts of these individuals because of the nature of the taxi-cab industry, and we know these drivers would have been in a confined space with members of the public while operating their vehicles,” said Lori. “These reasons make it imperative we release these details, so we can instruct the public to get tested at their earliest convenience.”
Symptoms of COVID-19 range from mild – like the flu and other common respiratory infections – to severe. The most common symptoms include: fever, cough, difficulty breathing, muscle aches, fatigue, headache, sore throat, and runny nose. Find more details at LambtonPublicHealth.ca.
Residents can reduce the community spread of COVID-19 by staying at home if you are sick, avoiding non-essential trips and interactions, limiting the number of people you come in contact with, and frequently practicing good personal hygiene.
