Wyoming, ON – Lambton County Library will host a One Book Lambton special event featuring the works of acclaimed photographer and author, Larry Towell. This free presentation and book signing will take place on Friday, May 3 from 7:00 to 9:00 p.m. at the Sarnia Library Theatre.
This event marks the conclusion of this year's One Book Lambton programming. The 2024 One Book Lambton selection was Women Talking by Canadian author, Miriam Toews. Larry Towell will share photographs from his landmark book The Mennonites, originally published in 2000 and re-released in 2022 featuring 40 previously unpublished photographs. Towell's book is credited as the influence for the visual tone of the Academy Award-winning film adaptation of Women Talking, directed by Canadian filmmaker Sarah Polley.
The Mennonites captures a decade of Towell’s work documenting Mennonite communities across Canada and Mexico during the 1990s. In parallel with the themes explored in Toews' novel, Towell captures these communities as they deliberate whether to continue adhering to their traditional way of life or adapt to their evolving surroundings.
The event will provide a unique opportunity for attendees to engage with Larry Towell’s profound imagery and storytelling. Admission is free, but spots are limited. Reserve your spot now by registering at lclibrary.ca.
