Local artist featured in Lambton Heritage Museum’s first exhibit of 2024

Grand Bend, ON – Lambton Heritage Museum is pleased to announce S.H.E. is Healing, their first feature exhibition of 2024, will open Thursday, February 1.

S.H.E. is Healing features a series of 13 spirit portraits painted by local artist Suellen Evoy-Oozeer. Evoy-Oozeer’s work is inspired by a female perspective on the themes Spirit, Humanity, Earth (S.H.E.), and Healing. The exhibit is the culmination of a four-year community art project, in which Evoy-Oozeer opened dialogues of healing and compassion with other women in her community. Each spirit portrait is inspired by the kinship and respect Evoy-Oozeer felt sitting down with the woman that is represented. The portraits were made with acrylic paint on canvas framed with cedar.

“We’re excited to have Suellen’s art open our 2024 exhibition schedule,” said Dana Thorne, Curator/Supervisor with Lambton Heritage Museum. “Her work invites our visitors to reflect on soul-searching themes like compassion and spiritual healing. There is something for everyone to connect with in this exhibit.”

S.H.E. is Healing will be on display at the Museum from February 1 to February 24, 2024. A series of programs will accompany the exhibit throughout the month including artist-led workshops for different ages and a drumming circle. Event details can be found on the Lambton Heritage Museum website. Evoy-Oozeer’s previous exhibition Me, You & Us was featured at Lambton Heritage Museum in 2019.
