Sarnia, ON - Food has the power to enhance lives, improve health, inspire children and bring family and friends together. Not only during March, but every day, Lambton Public Health, along with Dietitians of Canada, encourages everyone to Unlock the Potential of Food.
"Eating together is a great way for families and friends to connect and improve communication," says Lauren Renlund, Registered Dietitian at Lambton Public Health. "Families who cook together are more likely to eat together, and if you involve your kids in food preparation, including the shopping, they'll learn important skills that can lead to healthier eating."
If evening activities are getting in the way of family dinners, aim to share at least one meal per day whether it's breakfast or lunch. You can also save time by doubling recipes on the weekend and having leftovers for a weeknight dinner.
Need some recipe ideas? Families can use the Cookspiration App to find healthy recipes, including 32 new recipes under the Nutrition Month Genre. Cookspiration is free to download on iPhone, iPad and Android.
