Point Edward, ON - Test results received today by Lambton Public Health confirm mosquitoes collected from a trap located in Wyoming on August 1 tested positive for the West Nile virus (WNV).
This is the second positive finding as part of WNV surveillance. A crow in Sarnia tested positive in late July.
WNV is spread to humans through the bite of an infected mosquito. Reduce your risk:
- Take precautions to avoid mosquitoes and bites
- Reduce mosquito breeding areas around your home
- Support surveillance by reporting dead birds
For information call the West Nile virus info line at 519-383-3824 or toll-free at 1-800-667-1839 ext. 3824. Visit www.lambtonhealth.on.ca for more about the prevention of mosquitoes and bites, and precautions to remove dead birds.
