Point Edward, ON – Lambton Public Health (LPH) has been notified by the province that future orders of the Pfizer COVID-19 vaccine are temporarily delayed, so our remaining Pfizer supply needs to be prioritized.
Beginning Tuesday, December 21, in stock vaccines will be distributed as follows:
- Residents aged 12-29 years old will receive the Pfizer vaccine as recommended by the National Advisory Committee on Immunization (while supplies last).
- Residents aged 30+ will receive the Moderna vaccine.
Note: This change will remain in effect until further notice.
Lambton Public Health officials say since Moderna and Pfizer mRNA vaccines are interchangeable for people aged 30 and older, there is no need to cancel or change your appointment if you have already had one or two doses of Pfizer.
“Due to the Omicron variant, it is more important to get a booster shot as soon as you can,” said Dr. Sudit Ranade, Medical Officer of Health for the County of Lambton. This vaccine administration plan will be in place until future vaccine supplies from the province are confirmed.
In an effort to shield our most vulnerable and provide an extra layer of protection against COVID-19 and its variants (including Omicron), LPH is increasing opportunities for third dose (booster) vaccinations to individuals 70 years of age and older. LPH is adding a Walk-in Third Dose Booster clinic for those 70 years of age and older in Forest this week. The clinic will take place at The Shores Recreation Centre on Wednesday December 22 from 9:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. No appointments are needed, but this clinic will be for third/booster doses only, for those 70 years of age and older. Moderna mRNA vaccine will be onsite.
LPH also encourages anyone who is eligible for a third dose, but cannot book into one of our clinics, to seek their booster shot at one of several local pharmacies offering COVID-19 vaccines. A full list of Lambton pharmacies offering the vaccine is on LPH’s website. Some local primary care providers are also administering COVID-19 vaccines. Please call them directly to confirm.
