Back to SearchPoint Edward, ON – Respiratory illness prevention and protection continue to be a priority for our community as we move closer to the holidays and as the number of indoor interactions increases. Using simple basic actions is something we can all do to reduce the potential spread of illness and protect those most vulnerable.
These actions include:
- Stay up to date with immunizations, including COVID-19 and influenza (the flu).
- Stay home when you are sick and wear a mask until day 10 from symptom onset.
- Practice good hand hygiene and regularly cleaning surfaces.
- Cover your mouth using the inside of your elbow when you cough or sneeze.
- Consider wearing a mask, particularly if you are at high risk.
- If you are at high risk, speak with your healthcare provider about antiviral treatment options for the COVID-19 virus and influenza virus in case you get sick.
“Vaccination is especially important for those ages 65 and older or who are at higher risk of severe disease or outcomes,” said Dr. Dueck, Lambton’s Medical Officer of Health. “Vaccination is a key line of defense in the fight against respiratory illness.”
“It’s not too late to get these important vaccines to protect your families and communities,” said Crystal Palleschi, Health Protection Supervisor for Lambton Public Health. “While public health community immunization clinics are finished for this season, COVID-19 and flu vaccines are widely available at participating pharmacies and select health care provider’s offices.”
Adults 60 years and older living in long-term care homes, Elder Care Lodges, and some other high-risk groups are also eligible for publicly funded RSV vaccine (Arexvy). Please reach out to these eligible settings for information regarding getting this vaccine for loved ones.
Lambton Public Health will continue to offer pediatric COVID-19/Flu immunization clinics for individuals ages 6 months to 11 years old who may have difficulty accessing these vaccines elsewhere. Pediatric clinic dates and times will be updated on our clinic page as they are made available.
