Grand Bend, ON - The first tundra swans have been spotted in the Thedford Bog behind the Lambton Heritage Museum, and numbers are expected to rise over the next several weeks.
For many residents of Lambton County, the beginning of spring is often associated with the return of the tundra swans. The tundra swans make an annual stop in this area during their 6,000km migration loop. In a good year, there may be as many as 15,000 individual birds resting on the bog, attracted by the melt water of spring and the remnants of the prior year’s corn crop.
The Lambton Heritage Museum is currently featuring exhibits about the tundra swan migration, as well as activities to engage visitors in the tundra swan story. This exhibit will be available until April 12. Stop by the Lambton Heritage Museum before heading out to Greenway Road to view the tundra swans in person.
Visit www.returnoftheswans.com for updates and estimates on the number of swans in the area. You can also call the Lambton Heritage Museum at 519-243-2600 for migration updates.
The Return of the Swans exhibition, the Me, You, & Us exhibition, and the museum's permanent exhibits can be viewed Monday to Friday from 10:00 a.m. until 5:00 p.m. or Saturdays and Sundays from 11:00 a.m. until 5:00 p.m. Museum admission is $5.00 for adults, $4.00 for seniors and students, and $3.00 for children.
