Wyoming, ON - Lambton County Archives (LCA) will be hosting a year-long workshop series focusing on genealogical research and archival preservation.
The workshop series kicks off with a four-week beginner's genealogy program called Routes to Roots, taking place on Tuesday, September 10, September 24, October 8 and October 22. Participants will learn how to begin uncovering their family history using resources both online and in the Archives collection, including a behind the scenes tour of the Archives Storage Vault.
Following the four-week Routes to Roots workshop, additional programs will occur monthly and include the following topics:
- Introduction to Genetic Genealogy: November 12, 2019
- Hands-On Genetic Genealogy (AncestryDNA required): December 10, 2019
- Preserving Your Documents: January 14, 2020
- Scrapbooking the Past: February 11, 2020
- Lambton Loyalists: March 24, 2020
- Military Heritage: April 21, 2020
- Documentary Storage and Display: May 19, 2020
According to Archivist/Supervisor Nicole Aszalos, "These programs offer both beginner genealogists and more advanced researchers the opportunity to discover the resources and the expertise that the Lambton County Archives can offer. Participants can sign up for all or some of the programs, depending on their interests."
All workshops require pre-registration. Anyone interested in participating must have an Archives membership which can be purchased for $25.00. If you are interested in becoming a member, or would like to pre-register for a workshop, please call Lambton County Archives at 519-845-5426.
