Point Edward, ON - Test results received today by Lambton Public Health confirm mosquitoes collected from a trap located in Corunna on August 23 tested positive for West Nile virus (WNV).
The presence of WNV has already been confirmed in Lambton County after a mosquito pool in Wyoming and a crow in Sarnia tested positive earlier this season.
WNV is spread to humans through the bite of an infected mosquito. Reduce your risk:
- Take precautions to avoid mosquitoes and bites
- Reduce mosquito breeding areas around your home
- Support surveillance by reporting dead birds
For information call the West Nile virus info line at 519-383-3824 or toll-free at 1-800-667-1839 ext. 3824. Visit www.lambtonhealth.on.ca for more about the prevention of mosquitoes and bites, and precautions to remove dead birds.
