Wyoming, ON – Lambton County Archives and Lambton Heritage Museum are inviting members of the community to share their Lambton County hockey stories, photos, and objects between January 4 and February 29, 2024.
“Hockey has a strong history here in Lambton County, between our formal and recreational leagues and the natural environment that provides ample ice surface in the winter months,” said Nicole Aszalos, Archivist/Supervisor with Lambton County Archives. “There are fantastic stories out there of youth leagues, playing pond hockey with friends, and notable hockey players or teams with roots in Lambton County and we aim to capture these memorable moments before they are lost to time. Together we will preserve Lambton County’s hockey history including what this sport means to our community.”
Lambton County Archives is specifically seeking stories related to playing or watching hockey in Lambton County, including tales of organized leagues, recreational teams, and casual pick-up games with friends. The scope of the project focuses on stories taking place within Lambton County including outstanding individuals with ties to Lambton County.
Members of the community can submit their hockey stories or photos via the electronic submission form at lambtonmuseums.ca/hockey. The Archives can assist with digitization of materials for the project. Contact the Archives directly at 519-845-5426 or book an appointment online at lambtonarchives.ca.
Submitted stories and photos may be displayed as part of the larger feature exhibition Hockey at Lambton Heritage Museum this July to October 2024. Lambton Heritage Museum is also asking the community to lend specific hockey-related items such as hockey skates, sticks, jerseys, and trophies or medals with local ties which could be included in the exhibit. The objects must be in relatively good condition (although some use is expected) and must have a connection to Lambton County. To submit an object for consideration, fill out the form at lambtonmuseums.ca/hockey by February 29, 2024. Museum staff will follow up directly regarding objects selected to be part of the exhibit.
