Household Hazardous Waste collection events
Do you know how to dispose of items like nail polish, nail polish remover, household cleaners, or batteries? Although these may not be items we usually consider dangerous, they are considered household hazardous waste items.
You can bring your household derived hazardous waste to one of the upcoming Household Hazardous Waste Day events and it will be disposed of by experts, at no cost to you!
Household Hazardous Waste Day events will be held at Clean Harbours Canada, 4090 Telfer Road, St. Clair Township from 9:00 a.m. until 2:00 p.m. on the following dates for the 2024 season:
- Saturday, March 23
- Saturday, April 27
- Saturday, May 25
- Saturday, June 22
- Saturday, September 21
- Saturday, October 26
Corrosive, toxic, reactive and flammable materials will be collected. These items should never be placed in a regular landfill because they have the potential to injure sanitation workers and the potential to damage our environment.
Other accepted items include pharmaceuticals (expired prescription medications), pesticides and herbicides, fertilizers, aerosols, pool chemicals, used oil, oil filters, propane cylinders, fluorescent lights (tubes and compact), fire extinguishers, paint thinner, and oil based and latex paints and stains.
Items not accepted include: PCBs, commercial, industrial, agricultural or radioactive wastes, electronics and explosives (flares and ammunition).
The County’s Hazardous Waste Collection Events are for household derived hazardous materials only. Commercially generated hazardous waste, including industrial and agricultural, will not be accepted.

Affordable Housing Seed Funding Program supporting creation of new housing units
Launched in late 2023, the Affordable Housing Seed Funding Program provides funds to non-profit agencies to assist with the planning costs of building new affordable housing and completing the pre-development activities related to new construction.
Through the Program’s initial intake, $794,000 in total seed funding has been awarded to five applicants, which will support the creation of up to 177 new units in the community.
There is still funding available through the Affordable Housing Seed Funding Program, and applications are currently being accepted. To learn more and to apply, visit www.lambtononline.ca/seedfunding.
211 Ontario
In large scale emergencies that have the potential to create a surge in public inquiries, Lambton County may work with 211 Ontario to field calls from the public.
When activated, calling 2-1-1 or visiting 211Ontario.ca will provide residents with the latest information about the emergency. Details may include information about relief assistance or instructions to help protect public health and safety.
Remember, when a disaster strikes, calling 9-1-1 should only be used to report emergencies or request assistance from police, fire, or emergency medical services (ambulance), not to obtain information.
Day-to-day, 211 Ontario provides public information about community and social services. Service is available 24 hours a day, every day of the year, in 175 languages.
For more information about the use of 211 Ontario during emergencies, visit EmergenciesLambton.ca.
Final call for Lambton hockey-related stories and artifacts
February 29 marks the last day to submit your hockey stories, photos, and potential artifacts online via the form at lambtonmuseums.ca/hockey! Maybe you played on a youth league, or never missed a pond hockey game with friends, or perhaps you have a great memory of meeting a local hockey legend like Pat Stapleton or one of the Hunter brothers. If so, we want to hear from you! Together, we will preserve Lambton County’s hockey history, including what this sport means to our community.
Follow the instructions on the online form to submit your hockey stories and photos. If you need assistance scanning or uploading your photos or other documents, please contact the Lambton County Archives at 519-845-5426. Submitted stories and photos may be displayed as part of the larger feature exhibit Hockey at Lambton Heritage Museum this July to October 2024. Lambton Heritage Museum is also asking the public to lend specific hockey-related items such as hockey skates, sticks, jerseys, and trophies or medals with local ties which could be included in the exhibit. Objects must be submitted via the online form by February 29 to be considered.
