Lambton County recognized by Built for Zero Canada and the Canadian Alliance to End Homelessness
Lambton County has been recognized by Built for Zero Canada and the Canadian Alliance to End Homelessness (CAEH) for achieving the designation of Basic Quality Coordinated Access.
To achieve Basic Quality Coordinated Access, communities must confirm a score of 16/16 on their Coordinated Access Scorecard, update their Provider Participation Tool, and complete a review of the Coordinated Access Initial Written Documents Checklist. Lambton County has met all the requirements for CAEH’s assessment of Basic Quality Coordinated Access and is among only 8 communities in Ontario to earn this achievement to date.
The coordinated access system is used to guide individuals and families who are experiencing or at risk of homelessness to community-level access points. From these access points, trained workers use a common assessment tool to evaluate the individual or family's depth of need, prioritize them for housing support services, and help match them to available housing focused interventions. A quality coordinated access system is transparent, accessible, effective, and efficient at identifying, assessing, prioritizing, and matching people experiencing homelessness to housing solutions as quickly as possible. It is considered one of the essential elements for having a local system that is ‘built for zero’ and designed to end homelessness. Achieving this designation helps prove to other communities that achieving a Basic Quality Coordinated Access system is possible.

Household Hazardous Waste Collection Events
Do you know how to dispose of items like nail polish, nail polish remover, household cleaners, or batteries? Although these may not be items we usually consider dangerous, they are considered household hazardous waste items.
You can bring your household derived hazardous waste to one of the upcoming Household Hazardous Waste Day events and it will be disposed of by experts, at no cost to you!
Household Hazardous Waste Day events will be held at Clean Harbours Canada, 4090 Telfer Road, St. Clair Township from 9:00 a.m. until 2:00 p.m. on the following dates for the 2024 season:
- Saturday, April 27
- Saturday, May 25
- Saturday, June 22
- Saturday, September 21
- Saturday, October 26
Corrosive, toxic, reactive and flammable materials will be collected. These items should never be placed in a regular landfill because they have the potential to injure sanitation workers and damage our environment.
Other accepted items include pharmaceuticals (expired prescription medications), pesticides and herbicides, fertilizers, aerosols, pool chemicals, used oil, oil filters, propane cylinders, fluorescent lights (tubes and compact), fire extinguishers, paint thinner, and oil based and latex paints and stains.
Items not accepted include: PCBs, commercial, industrial, agricultural, or radioactive wastes, electronics, and explosives (flares and ammunition).
The County’s Hazardous Waste Collection Events are for household derived hazardous materials only. Commercially generated hazardous waste, including industrial and agricultural, will not be accepted.
