Pandemic Response
Lambton Public Health became fully immersed in the local COVID-19 pandemic response through collaboration with federal, provincial and local stakeholders. COVID-19 surveillance, case and contact management, communications, and community vaccination became core pillars of the pandemic response.
In order to support this work effectively, staff were redeployed and some areas expanded through partnerships with other County departments and new provincial funding to increase staffing levels. Community collaboration with local stakeholders has been critical to the response including work with municipalities, First Nations communities, hospitals, health care providers, schools, child care centres, workplaces, and many more.

Community Paramedicine Program Receives Provincial Funding
Lambton County EMS has been awarded one-time funding of over $2.8 million dollars to support the Community Paramedicine Program.
This funding will be allocated to ensure seniors and at-risk individuals remain stable in their own homes or community-based settings for as long as possible while on the provincial long-term care wait list. Community Paramedics work with partners to ensure patients receive the right care at the right time, with the goal to reduce unnecessary 911 calls, emergency room visits, and hospital admissions.

Canada-Ontario Housing Benefit
The Canada-Ontario Housing Benefit provides a portable housing benefit to households experiencing or at risk of homelessness. Staff from the Social Services Division have worked to identify eligible households in Lambton County for this benefit. 71 households were found to be eligible in the 2020/21 program year, and an additional 17 households will receive support in the 2021/22 program year.
The portable housing benefit allows individuals to choose rental units that are close to required supports and amenities. Having this flexibility expands housing choices and offers the opportunity of affordable housing options where none existed before.
