Wyoming, ON – Warden Kevin Marriott and Deputy Warden Brian White joined more than 2,500 participants at the Association of Municipalities of Ontario's 2024 AMO Conference in Ottawa earlier this week.
During the conference, the Warden and Deputy Warden along with members of the County’s senior management team met with:
- Anthony Leardi, the Parliamentary Assistant to the Minister of Health, to discuss the community’s need for operational funding for supportive housing and building Paramedic Services system capacity;
- The Honourable Michael Tibollo, Associate Minister of Mental Health and Addictions, to provide an update on Lambton County’s Mental Health & Addictions Pilot Program, the Community Health Integrated Care Team;
- The Honourable Paul Calandra, Minister of Municipal Affairs and Housing, to seek funding for the development of affordable and supportive housing in our Lambton communities; and
- The Honourable Stan Cho, Minister of Tourism, Culture & Gaming, to advocate for enhanced provincial operating funding for Lambton County’s library, museum and archives sites.
“We’re pleased we could meet with these four ministries during our time at AMO, and we’d like to thank Parliamentary Assistant Leardi, Associate Minister Tibollo, Minister Calandra, and Minister Cho for their time and discussions,” said Lambton County Warden Kevin Marriott. “These meetings allow for a more locally-focused conversation, and provide us the opportunity to share what is happening in our communities, including updates to programs and projects we have underway, or that we would like to see move forward.”
The County sought these meetings with the Ministries at AMO, and all of the County’s meeting requests were granted.
“Being able to speak face to face with provincial representatives about local issues and the action and support we’d like to see taken to resolve them is a highlight of the AMO Conference,” said Deputy Warden Brian White. “We look forward to continuing these conversations, and others, as we move forward.”
Sessions and speakers during the AMO Conference covered a wide range of topics, including housing and homelessness, the opioid epidemic, public safety, climate change, Indigenous engagement, access to health care services, artificial intelligence, and more.
Keynote presenters included Ontario Premier Doug Ford and his Government’s ministers, Marit Stiles, Leader of the Ontario NDP and Official Opposition, Bonnie Crombie, Leader of the Ontario Liberal Party, Mike Schreiner, Leader of the Green Party of Ontario, and Colin Best, AMO President.
