Wyoming, ON – Warden Kevin Marriott and Deputy Warden Brian White joined more than 1,600 participants from across the province at the 2024 Rural Ontario Municipal Association (ROMA) Conference in Toronto on Monday and Tuesday this week.
During the conference, the Warden and Deputy Warden along with members of the County’s senior management team met with:
- The Honourable Doug Downey, Attorney General, to: (a) address shortages of Justice of the Peace in Ontario and (b) advocate for additional Justice of the Peace resources for Sarnia-Lambton’s Provincial Offences Court;
- The Honourable Sylvia Jones, Deputy Premier and Minister of Health, to: (a) seek funding for supportive housing in our Lambton communities, (b) advocate for enhanced Community Paramedicine capacity, and (c) discuss strengthening of public health and voluntary mergers of health units; and
- The Honourable Rob Flack, Associate Minister of Housing, to seek funding for the development of affordable and supportive housing in our Lambton communities.
“We’re pleased we could meet with these three ministries during our time at ROMA, and we’d like to thank Minister Downey, Minister Jones, and Associate Minister Flack for their time and discussions,” said Lambton County Warden Kevin Marriott. “Our conversations were productive, and we look forward to continuing our discussions in the future.”
The County sought these meetings with the Ministries at ROMA, and all of the County’s meeting requests were granted.
“Ministry meetings at conferences like ROMA are a great starting point for larger conversations moving forward,” said Deputy Warden Brian White. “We were able to share some of our local goals and concerns directly with the Province this week, and we hope this contributes to progress in moving our work forward.”
