Accessibility Advisory Committee looking for two new members
The County’s Accessibility Advisory Committee is looking for two new members! The Committee advises Council on the preparation, implementation, and effectiveness of its Accessibility Plan and provides Council with advice on the accessibility of County facilities.
If you are interested in joining the Accessibility Advisory Committee, visit lambtononline.ca/accessibility to learn more.
Dig safe!
Spring is here and you might be starting to think about outdoor spring projects – many of which could involve some digging.
Knowing what’s underground before you dig – such as gas lines, electricity cables, and communications cables – can help protect you, your family, and others from personal injury, loss of essential services, and expensive restoration costs.
Homeowners and contractors are required, by law, to obtain utility locates before starting construction or excavation projects. Once your property has been inspected and lines have been marked, you will know the approximate location of utilities and can dig safely.
For more information about safe digging practices, visit www.digsafe.ca. If you have construction or landscaping plans, contact Ontario One Call at 1-800-400-2255 or visit OntarioOneCall.ca.
Household Hazardous Waste Collection Events
Do you know how to dispose of items like nail polish, nail polish remover, household cleaners, or batteries? Although these may not be items we usually consider dangerous, they are considered household hazardous waste items.
You can bring your household derived hazardous waste to one of the upcoming Household Hazardous Waste Day events and it will be disposed of by experts, at no cost to you!
Household Hazardous Waste Day events will be held at Clean Harbours Canada, 4090 Telfer Road, St. Clair Township from 9:00 a.m. until 2:00 p.m. on the following upcoming dates:
- Saturday, April 27
- Saturday, May 25
- Saturday, June 22
- Saturday, September 21
- Saturday, October 26
Corrosive, toxic, reactive and flammable materials will be collected. These items should never be placed in a regular landfill because they have the potential to injure sanitation workers and damage our environment.
Other accepted items include pharmaceuticals (expired prescription medications), pesticides and herbicides, fertilizers, aerosols, pool chemicals, used oil, oil filters, propane cylinders, fluorescent lights (tubes and compact), fire extinguishers, paint thinner, and oil based and latex paints and stains.
Items not accepted include: PCBs, commercial, industrial, agricultural, or radioactive wastes, electronics, and explosives (flares and ammunition).
The County’s Hazardous Waste Collection Events are for household derived hazardous materials only. Commercially generated hazardous waste, including industrial and agricultural, will not be accepted.
For more information visit lambtononline.ca/hhw or call 519-845-0801.
Stay up to date on construction projects and road closures
Temporary closures and detours on County Roads may take place due to seasonal construction and other events, like severe weather or emergency road work. In some cases, construction projects may also result in partial closures or lane reductions.
Did you know the County posts information on planned and upcoming road closures and construction projects at lambtononline.ca/roadclosures and lambtononline.ca/construction? You can also view a real-time map from Municipal511 on the Road Closures page that includes upcoming and current planned closures, as well as emergency road closures from the County and local municipalities.
Living snow fence program
The time for spring planting is almost here! Landowners and farmers - did you know the County runs a living snow fence program?
Living snow fences use standing rows of corn to help keep wind-blown snow off County roads, reducing the need for plowing and salting.
If you own land along a County Road and are interested in participating in the program, visit lambtononline.ca/snowfence to learn more about program requirements, compensation, and how to participate.
