Archibald Young
Provisional Warden, June to September, 1853. Warden, September to December, 1853. Warden, 1860.
Born in Scotland, January 6th, 1806. He had a sawmill and was a general merchant. When a child he came to Canada with his parents, lived in Sarnia Township until moving to Manitoba. Died May 1st, 1881, at Selkirk, Manitoba, and was buried there. He was 75 years of age.
Edwin D. Kerby
Warden, 1861 to 1862.
Born at Florence, Ontario, August 10, 1830. Came of United Empire Loyalist stock. Son of George P. Kerby, one of the oldest Magistrates in the old Western District. Served in the War of 1812-1815. Banker and oil producer at Oil Springs, Marthaville, and Petrolia. Reeve of Euphemia Township 7 years in succession. Mayor of Petrolia 1877-1878. Defeated by Hon. Arch.McKellar for Provincial Legislature in 1867. Unsuccessfully opposed Hon. David Mills for Bothwell House of Commons. Died November 30, 1889, and buried at Florence. Age 69 years.
Robert Rae
Warden, 1863 to 1864. Warden, 1867 to 1869.
Born in Scotland, November 16th, 1826. Came to Canada when 5 years of age and settled with his parents in Scarborough Township. Came to Bosanquet in 1852 and was the first postmaster of Widder. Kept a general store and later a private bank. He was Reeve of Bosanquet for 28 years, and occupied that position when the G.T.R was completed to Sarnia; and when King Edward VII was entertained here. He unsuccessfully contested Lambton County for the Legislator in 1867. Died in Sarnia, March 25, 1912. Age 86 years. Buried at Thedford, Ontario.
John Raeside Gemmill
Warden, 1865.
Born in Scotland, on the 9th of February 1808. Newspaper publisher of "Lanark Observer" from 1850 to 1853 and "Sarnia Observer "1853 - 1879. Came to Canada with his father's family in 1821 and settled in Lanark and lived there and in Perth until his removal to Sarnia in 1853. Died May 24th, 1891, at 83 years of age and buried in Lakeview Cemetery, Sarnia.
George S. McPherson
Warden, 1866.
Born in Ireland, in 1824, while the 71st Highlanders of which his father was an officer, were stationed there. Appointed Town Clerk of Petrolia in 1879, and held the position until his death on December 27th, 1899. He was 75 years of age, and was buried in Hillsdale Cemetery, Petrolia. His brother was Warden in 1858.
