On November 29, 1999, the Province of Ontario transferred the administration and prosecution responsibility for the Provincial Offences Act (POA) to the County of Lambton. The assumption of services was a result of Bill 108, the Streamlining of Administration of parts of the POA courts to Ontario municipalities.
The Court Services Department is responsible for hosting POA court proceedings at the Court Services location, recording of court proceedings, processing fine payments, enforcement of unpaid fines, setting trials, generating transcripts, and other administrative duties resulting from charges laid by various enforcement agencies within Lambton County.
Prosecution services for Part I, II, and III matters are provided by the Municipal Prosecutor of the County of Lambton Legal Services/Clerk's Department. Prosecution for Part III matters are no longer provided by the Ministry of the Attorney General, as of March 2023.
