The Collections division handles outstanding fines that are owed to the municipality. Some duties that fall under this division include:
- Sending courtesy Final Notices and Letters of Enforcement to notify defendants of their outstanding fine(s) and the consequences if they are not paid.
- Setting up and maintaining payment arrangements to assist defendants in paying off fines.
- Assigning cases to third party Collection Agencies.
- Assigning enforcement such as adding fines to municipal tax roll and property tax bills, and civil enforcement such as garnishment of wages or writs of seizure and sale.
Payment due dates
Please note that a defendant has approximately 75 days to pay their fine before additional costs and further enforcement commences. A defendant will receive a Notice of Fine and Due Date after the first 45 days of conviction, and then a courtesy Final Notice after that. Please ensure your mailing address is up-to-date with the Court Services Department, as notices are distributed to defendants by mail.
To avoid your fine going into collections, please contact our Court Services Department to set up a payment arrangement if you are unable to pay the fine in full.
