Am I eligible?
You may be eligible for Ontario Works assistance if you are:
- Living in Lambton County
- Needing financial assistance for housing and other necessities such as food and clothing
- Willing to explore next steps to help reach your goals
Income, assets and current circumstances are also part of assessing eligibility for Ontario Works assistance.
How to apply
You can apply for assistance online or by phone.
If you need financial assistance and are:
- Under 18 years of age
- An adult providing temporary care for a child in financial need that is not your child
- In a crisis or emergency situation ie. facing homelessness, utility disconnection, personal safety concerns, emergency authorization to be in Canada for humanitarian reasons
Please contact Lambton’s Ontario Works Department at 1-800-387-2882 or 519-344-2062, or visit the Lambton Shared Services Centre at 162 Lochiel St. Sarnia between 8:30 a.m. and 4:30 p.m. to start an application.
You can also apply for emergency assistance online by completing the Emergency Assistance Application.

When applying
Having the following information ready for each person in your household will help when applying for assistance:
- Birth date verification ie. birth certificate or passport
- Social Insurance Number (SIN) card
- Ontario Health Insurance Plan (OHIP) card
- Immigration/sponsorship information if applicable
- Current address, rent and utility costs, and landlord information
- Information about their income and assets (vehicle, RRSP's, etc.)
