The role of a Community Support Worker is to provide outreach and support to tenants and their families. They also advocate on behalf of individuals to improve quality of life and maintain their housing.
The Community Support Worker may provide assistance with:
- Maintaining housing and preventing eviction.
- Making a budget to manage finances.
- Completing forms (Canada Pension, ODSP, Housing Services, etc.)
- Mediating tenant issues and complaints
- Providing home visits to ensure the health and safety of clients
- Addressing hoarding issues and concerns
The Community Support Worker may assist in accessing:
- Health care supports
- Financial supports and resources (Ontario Works, Ontario Disability Support, Canada Pension, and Old Age Security)
- Resources through agencies such as the Canadian Mental Health Association, Family Counseling Center, and Community Care Access
- Support and advocacy for individuals and families who have disabilities, are having difficulty maintaining housing or have experienced family violence.
